CheratoconoKeratoconus is an alteration of the corneal geometry and structure with the cornea gradually losing its shape, changing from the sferical (of the normal eye) to an irregular conic shape. The deformed area has a reduction of thickness and vision impairs.
Initially it is possible to improve vision with spectacles, but the use of contact lenses becomes necessary with disease progression.

In young patients, in whom the evolution is usually rapid, it is possible to perform parasurgical treatment (CORNEAL CROSS-LINKING). In the case of advanced disease, surgery becomes necessary (INTACS implantation, LAMELLAR KERATOPLASTY, PENETRATING KERATOPLASTY).
